Using AI for social impact in pediatric palliative care

For the non-profit initiative Superhelden fliegen vor, which supports young palliative care patients, we used AI in a charitable context to improve workflows, simplify processes and explore how AI can help communicate deeply emotional and sensitive topics.

What I did

• helped develop AI-supported workflow and process optimization

• explored how AI can be used to create content for terminally ill patients

• shaped a concept for the UEFA Euro 2024 that included a Feature Video Production feat. Ronaldo

• contributed to the partially AI-generated documentary short film Love your Existence

• helped create Nene, an AI-generated main character representing the many palliative patients accompanied by the initiative

Impact

• applied AI in a non-profit and highly sensitive social context

• showed that AI can support not only efficiency, but also empathy-driven communication

• created a symbolic and emotionally resonant character with Nene

• an overall outreach of 500k views and overall impact for „Superhelden fliegen vor“ with our campaigns

Why it matters

This project proved that AI can do more than automate or entertain. Used responsibly, it can also help tell emotional stories, support vulnerable communities and create new ways to communicate care, memory and humanity.
